Did Academy Lafayette really fire a loyal ten year employee for trying to keep a CROOK from leaving the store with a basket full of stolen goods and got punched in the mouth for it? Please respond so I know whether or not I'll ever return to Academy

I do not think the employee was fired for it but def. Reprimanded bc employees are 1. Not supposed to chase or try to stop someone from stealing .2..Are not supposed to follow them out of the store to stop them ....3. are not to play hero.
For these reasons: 
1. U don't know if they are armed 2. You don't know where their frame of mind is. 3. Like a wild animal when they feel cornered or trapped they'll fight a way out...fight or flight theory. 
4.stores main concern is safety of employees, so when u put urself in harm's way, and potentially end up hurt it falls back on the business/franchise's shoulders and pocketbooks..Just a lil something to add as a real life example: I used to know someone who had a similar experience working in a store...and the thief told him very bluntly as he raised his shirt up to show his gun " hey this is just a simple burglary, let's not turn it into a homicide" he immediately backed off...That's how fast things can get out of control.
