Orvis Hill Country Shooting Grounds FAIRFIELD - Hours, Reviews & Deals

An old college buddy and I attended two days of Winged Shooting School at Orvis Hillcountry (519 Gladhill Rd, Fairfield, PA 17320) this weekend (Sat-Sun). It was fantastic. A personal coach (Danny S.) was assigned to the two of us and we had expert, one-on-one coaching and instruction for every shot we took on both days. They (Danny (coach) and Carla (shop manager and site coordinator) treated us as if we were colleagues and long-time friends of Orvis Hillcountry. Our coach was patient and thorough and helped us both correct bad habits and build new and correct ones over hundreds of shots. He let me try two different guns, in addition to the one I brought with me, to help me understand fit, length-of-pull, balance, barrel length, and confirm which gun is right for me. I highly recommend Danny and Orvis Hillcountry Winged Shooting School to anyone who wants to improve their sporting clay game!

I brought my boys out to Orvis Hill Country for the one day wing shooting school. I can’t say enough good things about the experience we had. The land and facilities are really great - you’d be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot to spend the day shooting. But the people are really what made it so incredible. Friendly, hospitable and helpful. We worked with head instructor Jim Champion. My boys’ experience and abilities are at very different levels and he did a great job of figuring out what each of us needed. He started by asking what we hoped to get out of the day, which sounds like a small thing but was a great start. Jim’s enthusiasm for teaching shooting is evident from the moment you meet him. He instilled confidence in my younger son and really got him ramped up quickly. His instruction on properly mounting the gun, and the reinforcement of that on the course was alone worth the price of the entire day. He was encouraging, patient and really tuned into everyone needs throughout the day. Again, I can’t overstate how good he was. Jim and Orvis Hill Country get a 10 out of 10 from us. Incredible day.
