The '15 Items or Less' lanes were closed, and the main checkout line was pure chaos. A few machines had solid red lights indicating inoperable, one with a green light illuminated, but the front of the POS system was open as if to relay the msg "this one no worky". Annnnd then of course there are the multiple, ever present, yet seldom utilized ~Scan & Go~ registers for Walmart+ paying members that just sat untouched with nice well lit 'green-means-go' *could-be* options for folks in an effort to help speed along the consistently growing mile long line.... but nah. It was also irritating they did not send some customers (aka paying patrons aka consumers contributing to their employees continuing to receive a paycheck) to Guest Service or the Money Center [both of which had 0 {ZERO} guests in line or that they were currently assisting] as I have seen all types of different retail stores do when possible. The worst part of it all was there was not a single manager or supervisor in sight, none to be found to attempt to diffuse the obvious "SITUATION", we'll call it. I have witnessed at numerous other retail and grocery stores, when something like this happens, management steps up to take charge, be a leader, and help get their customers taken care of quickly and effectively, even if that's meant that manager assigns themselves a till and opens a register themselves! I witnessed this at Kroger (Irmo) countless times in the past. Tonight, I saw no such leadership involvement. Not one single employee with any shred of a sense of urgency or ounce of care about the outrageous line and customers growing more irritated and frustrated by the minute. Effective management and employee response are crucial in resolving issues and ensuring a positive customer experience. Now - before the "It's Walmart, what do you expect?" comments come. I understand. I also understand system outages and how stressful such events can be for employees, no matter the cause. It's not just about the tech; it's about having staff who care and managers who lead well. Moral of the story [aka my rant] ...... the decision to switch to 98% self service checkout registers was and IS proving to be the biggest mistake EVER for retail and grocery stores and I knew it would happen and be realized sooner or later.

Never do pickup here. I have an infant so I try to schedule pickup in advance. I show up during my window and still end up waiting 20-30 minutes... could just get the baby out and go into the store at that point. Completely defeats the point of pickup.
