The employee at Winfree Firearms made me the most uncomfortable I've ever been in almost 15 years of buying and selling firearms. Visited the establishment to conduct a legal private party transfer of a rifle. The moment we entered and politely informed them that we were looking to conduct a background check and transfer, the woman behind the counter accused us of of attempting to facilitate a straw purchase and went on a tirade about the amount of trouble she could get in for enabling such a thing. Fairly absurd accusation considering we showed up prepared with IDs, proof of ownership, and bill of sale in hand. Even after convincing the woman that this purchase was, in fact, above board, the strangeness of the interaction with her did not end there. What occurred over the next HOUR was hands down one of the most unhinged, rambling, and unprofessional stream of consciousness events that I've ever experienced. She ranted at us about everything from her ATF experiences to the state of modern youths with a sprinkling of 'back in my day' stories to top it off. Every 10 minutes or so, she'd fill out a line on the transfer paperwork then pause to continue her tirade. That two page transfer paperwork took just about an hour for her to fill out and enter into the computer. I maybe said three words, she said the rest. I could usually care less about how other people act, but the experience of entering a business as an overprepared customer ready to conduct a transaction only to be met by this truly insane behavior left the absolute worst taste in my mouth. Leaving one additional star than they deserve because she did mention this business used to belong to her father. Place doesn't appear to have changed in decades (minus the counter selling cigarettes now taking up half the store) and you can tell someone really put some love into it at one point or another. Really a shame because I could see myself loving it, had I been born in an earlier generation and got to experience it back in the day with a different person behind the counter. If you're a local and have known the employees at Winfree for a long time, I'm sure you just love it. For everyone else who is looking to visit for the first time, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you stomach whatever additional effort it will take to visit literally any other firearms establishment in the area and just do your business there.

Nice little shop with quality old guns. Ammo and some military relics on display. One of those shops, you have to stop frequently and check inventory.
