Where do you go to get a license /permit to purchase a shot gun?

Now a days it's all done by using a computer. I had to go to NJ website and it gives you a listing of everything including filling out an application for a firearm ID. You do have to go to your local police department 1st and they will help you out since you need their ID number to fill in on your application. Good Luck!

You need an FID to purchase any firearm in NJ, but no specific shotgun permit (nor any specific permits for other long arms). Each handgun you buy needs its own permit.

Yes you need a license and a permit.  You need to be finger printed with results going to state police.  I was very impressed with the prosess.
