At Gun Made, we love our bags, packs, and slings. So when we saw the new Vertx Siege backpacks were released, we knew we had to check them out.
The Siege backpack is designed to be rugged and reliable enough for professional use, while also meeting the needs of everyday folks who value organization and versatility in their backpack. As a teacher, hobby farmer, and someone who carries daily, I put many miles on my backpacks.
From my 15” ASUS TUF laptop to my CCW and other essential items, having the proper bag is crucial for my EDC.
The Siege 25L is large enough to be useful but not cumbersome. Its dimensions are 11.5″ W x 20″ H x 8.5″ D. For me, this is plenty of space for my daily work commute or a weekend trip.
Depending on the mission, the bag should be sufficiently large to meet the requirements of those with more tactical needs.
For my daily routine, I can comfortably carry my laptop, charger, mouse, pens and notebooks, water, sunglasses, lunch, an umbrella (when needed), and a water bottle with little effort. All of these fit in the bag without feeling overstuffed.
The overall comfort of carrying the Siege has been great. My backpack, when fully loaded to go to work, weighs north of 11 pounds.
My walk from my car to work is about 200 yards, a relatively short distance, but long enough for a backpack to become uncomfortable if it doesn’t hold weight well. The Siege 25L holds it well.
The build quality was the first thing that stood out to me with the Siege 25L. It features 330D nylon and 500D MOLLE-reinforced panels, making the backpack both rugged and lightweight.
The exterior of the backpack is water-resistant, which is a major benefit for me, as I frequently carry my laptop and other expensive electronics.
Vertx tastefully designed the Siege 25L as well. It isn’t overwhelmed with gaudy branding or design choices that, while striking, are ugly. The interior of the Siege is light-colored, which may aid in finding items in low-light conditions.
The Siege has plenty of pockets and other compartments to ensure that there is a place for everything. These include an expandable front pocket, loop-lined main compartment, mesh pockets, admin slots, and more.
I don’t typically carry off-body, but when I have with the Siege, I’ve found the concealed carry pocket to be a well-executed design. Being able to fit a full-size pistol, such as the Glock 17, along with the Rapid Access Half-Pull tab, allows for quick and easy access.
One small but noteworthy feature I appreciate is the dedicated sunglasses pocket. I have a bad habit of losing my sunglasses or forgetting where I set them. The pocket, lined with tricot fabric, has helped me keep track of my sunglasses and prevented them from getting scratched.
And from a comfort perspective, the padding on the bag is top-notch. The shoulder straps are wide and well-padded, and the backpack’s back panel is also padded yet breathable, providing a comfortable fit.
The adjustable sternum strap ensures a well-distributed weight, making it comfortable even when loaded with excess weight.
The armor insert compatibility is an interesting feature that I was unable to test, as I didn’t purchase the panel. For most civilian users, this feature is likely an interesting bonus rather than an essential function of the Siege 25L.
Lastly, Vertx went with YKK locking zippers on the main compartment which proves it paid attention to details. There is nothing worse than cheap zippers…these are not cheap.
I don’t have many complaints about the Siege, but it isn’t perfect either. The laptop sleeve inside the main compartment is tight. When I first went to put my 15” TUF laptop in the bag, it took some finagling to get it in.
Removing the laptop wasn’t nearly as much of a chore, and the more I use the bag, the easier it is to accomplish the task. This is probably a combination of experience and the pocket slightly loosening up with daily use; not a deal breaker by any means, but worth noting for those who plan similar use cases.
A minor consideration with the Siege 25L is its overt tactical appearance. Yes, that is known upfront when ordering the bag, but the external MOLLE panels mean it doesn’t blend into professional office settings as a more traditionally designed backpack.
I am comfortable with that visual design choice; however, each user will have to decide that for themselves. Regardless of the looks, the bag is highly functional.
The Vertx Siege 25L is a smartly designed, rugged, and highly functional pack. It bridges the gap between overt tactical gear and a practical everyday carry option. The tactical styling may not suit everyone’s taste, but the functionality is hard to deny.
It is an outstanding option for my needs, which include transporting my laptop and other valuable electronics, maintaining good organization, and occasional use on the range and at the farm.
If you are a professional in need of a mission-ready bag, it is ready to meet that need as well. It is built to be durable enough in conditions far harsher than many users will ever experience.
I recommend that anyone who values quality, adaptability, and solid design choices check it out.
