Being a dad and an EDC fanatic, I find myself with way more items than I can fit in my pockets on a daily basis.

I also live in a heavily populated urban area and am constantly in busy places like stores and restaurants, so having a way to carry everything without sticking out like a sore thumb is extremely important to me.

Be sure to pair the bag with a quality holster like this one from CrossBreed Holsters if you’re going to utilize it for concealed carry.

That’s where sling bags and smaller packs come in handy, and is what caught my attention with the Urban Ghost Sling Bag. It checks almost every one of my boxes on paper, but I wanted to wait to do a review until after I spent enough time with it in the real world.

Now that a couple of months have passed, I’ve seen all I need to give you a thorough review.

Did it meet, exceed, or fall short of my expectations? Keep reading to find out. And before we dive in, I’d like to thank VERTX for sending this bag out for review. It’s folks like them that help keep our reviews flowing!

First Impressions

There are a few things I always check right away when it comes to bags: zippers, padding (comfortability), and organization options.

Each one of those was easily checked with YKK zippers, padding on the back panel and shoulder strap, and a wide array of pockets, compartments, and slots.

Cheap sunglasses don’t need protecting, but the soft pocket is nice to have just in case!

The internal storage seemed well thought out, and I could envision where most of my daily gear would go, with some room to spare for on-the-fly items.

I originally held off purchasing a dedicated holster for the bag, but once I saw how much room the loop-lined CCW pocket had, I quickly ordered a Modular Holster from CrossBreed.

By the end of the first week with the bag, I was able to see it becoming one of my most carried bags.

Features

It’s pretty impressive the number of “features” that a small 10L sling bag can have. We’ll start with the main draw, which is that CCW pocket.

Fits like a glove.

To access the CCW pocket, you’ll find an oversized Rapid Access Half-Pull tab that’s reversible and allows you to get to your firearm extremely easily. I’ve had other bags where a similar compartment had the same-sized zippers as the rest of the bag, and it took a LOT of training and practice to get it right.

That’s not the case here! I will admit that I find this tab to be actually larger than I’d like, but I’d rather it be larger than smaller than necessary.

This Rapid Access Half-Pull tab is super convenient for quick access.

I really like that you don’t have to take the bag off to get to your firearm. A simple swing of the bag and one zipper pull, and your hand is on your gun.

If you play it slick enough, you could even walk with your hand in there and make it look like you’re simply looking for something inside, if you’re ever nervous walking through a specific area.

The CCW compartment is easily accessible without needing to remove the bag from your body.

Inside the front panel are admin pockets, elastic loops, and even a zippered storage pocket. Here, I keep things like medical, lights, pen(s), etc. I’ve since beefed up this area with more medical, and still have a little extra room left.

EDG and medical gear all have their home.

The other main compartment allows for things like a tablet and has a place for a body armor panel. I haven’t added one yet, but it’s on the “to-do list”.

A good-sized tablet can fit no problem.

Everyday Use

While I haven’t been using this every day necessarily, I have intentionally been using it several times a week for the last couple of months.

From quick grocery runs to extended days out with the family, it’s remained comfortable and capable of carrying almost everything I needed.

Fits great and blends right in.

I’ve never felt like it brought unnecessary attention to me, thanks to the lack of branding and typical tactical features such as external MOLLE loops, so I would give it an A+ when it comes to being inconspicuous.

It didn’t take much training to get the quick firearm access down; just a few days of getting reps in, and I was rather confident with it.
